Two letters from Margaret Anna Young have been discovered, hidden in the walls of houses built by her family. Written for future occupants to find, they give a personal account of life in Shildon in the 1850s and 60s.
The Second Letter
This letter was discovered during alterations to David Camp’s house in Victoria Street in November 1992. It is the second of two letters that have been found, written by Margaret Anna Young. She placed the letter in the walls of Blyford House which was built by her family in 1864, for a future occupant to find. The letter was amongst articles concealed in a bottle including coins and documents relating to the family and their social standing.
